About the Production

USHERS is an award-winning musical that takes a darkly comic look behind the velvet curtain of theatre itself. The show has had multiple lives across London and Edinburgh, growing from a fringe production at the Hope Theatre to runs at the Charing Cross Theatre, Arts Theatre and The Other Palace.

James Steel Productions has served as general manager across every iteration of this production, providing the financial and operational continuity that has allowed USHERS to grow and find new audiences over more than a decade.

Production History

USHERS began life at the Hope Theatre in 2012, where its sharp writing and memorable score caught the attention of audiences and critics alike. A transfer to the Charing Cross Theatre followed in 2014, before the production moved to the Arts Theatre in 2015 and simultaneously played at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Momentum Venues.

The show returned in 2024 at The Other Palace, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the material and the commercial viability of a well-managed revival.

Our Role

As general manager from the very first production, James Steel Productions has overseen every financial and operational aspect of USHERS across all its iterations. This includes budgeting for venues ranging from 60 seats to 350 seats, managing the Edinburgh Fringe logistics, negotiating venue deals across four different London theatres, and ensuring the show remained financially sustainable through each transfer.
